Marjory E. Llewelyn

Marjory E. Llewelyn of Mattituck died at her home on March 29 at the age of 74. She was born in Greenport, Dec. 13, 1940, to John and Elizabeth (Rowland) Hiddink and was a graduate of Greenport High School.

On June 28, 1970, she married Leonard J. Llewellyn at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck and together they made their home in Mattituck.

In the community, she was active in Mattituck Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she was the longtime secretary, Mattituck-Laurel Historical Society, Mattituck Chamber of Commerce and the Friends of the Mattituck-Laurel Library.

In her free time, she enjoyed genealogy.

The family will receive visitors, Wednesday, April 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 2, at the funeral home, where Deacon Jeff Sykes will officiate. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.

Memorial donations to the Mattituck Fire Department Rescue Squad or Mattituck Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary would be appreciated.


Georgia Francis Panagopoulos

Georgia Francis Panagopoulos of East Marion died March 30 in Greenport. She was 53.

Ms. Panagopoulos was born July 29, 1961, in New York to Louisa (Rodriguez) and Ange Panagopoulos. She graduated from Greenport High School and attended Suffolk Community College.

Family members said she loved talking to people.

Predeceased by her father, Ms. Panagopoulos is survived by her mother; and her brother, Theo.

A service will take place at 11 a.m., at Friday, April 3, at Transfiguration of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in Mattituck. Interment was private.

Memorial donations may be made to East Marin Fire Department, P.O. Box 162, East Marion, NY 11939.

Funeral arrangements were in care of Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.

Leander B. Glover

Leander B. Glover, a 72-year member and Ex-Chief of the Cutchogue Fire Department died April 1, 2015.

The family will receive visitors Friday, April 3, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in  Cutchogue.  Firematic services will be held during the evening  hours.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at the Cutchogue Cemetery.

Harry G. Jackson

Harry G. “Ex” Jackson passed away April 4, 2015, at his home in Mattituck. The former longtime Riverhead resident was 82.

He was born July 15, 1932, in Greenport and is survived by his wife Barbara of 60 years; children Harry Jr. (Brenda), Steve, and Susan (Joseph); grandchildren Melanie (Bill), Harry III (Noelle), Steve Jr., Lauren (Ryan), Paige and two great-grandsons, Hunter and Brody. Harry was predeceased by his great-grandson, Landon.

Here are some of Ex’s accomplishments:

In 1950, his senior year, he pitched Mattituck High School to the Suffolk County Class B baseball championship. Ex joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1951 and pitched the Coast Guard baseball team to an inter service championship. He spent his service years onboard the cutter USCGC McCulloch WAVP-386 in Boston.

In 1968 he became a New York State Conservation officer. During this time, his favorite pastime was coaching the Riverhead Moose Little League baseball team. He had the pleasure of coaching these young men in the New York State Moose tournament each summer.

After his retirement, Harry and Barbara moved to Gardiners Island to oversee the day to day operations on this remote island. On his return to the mainland, he spent his free time on the water: clamming, scalloping, fishing and duck hunting.

As a longtime member and past president of Riverhead Sportsman Club, Ex treasured the time he spent deer and turkey hunting with family and club members. He cherished his annual trips to Maryland for duck hunting and Maine for deer hunting with friends and family.

He was a longtime member of Riverhead Fire Department and Eveready Company and was past-president of East End Surf Fishing Club.

The family will receive visitors Friday, April 10, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 11, at the funeral home.

Memorial donations in Ex’s name may be made to East End Hospice.

Memorial service for Robert Farrar Capon set

A memorial service for Father Robert Farrar Capon will be held April 11 at 4 p.m., in St. Luke’s Chapel at Camp De Wolfe in Wading River. An informal reception will follow. 

Father Capon, who resided on Shelter Island at the time of his death, was for many years dean of George R. Mercer School of Theology in Garden City and longtime rector of Christ Church Episcopal in Port Jefferson.

Father Capon also served at All Souls Church in Stony Brook, Little Portion Friary in M0unt. Sinai, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Easthampton, and most recently at Holy Trinity in Greenport.

A best-selling author of books on theology and cooking, he was also a food columnist for Newsday and The New York Times.

Felicia Koraleski

Felicia Koraleski, 92, of Peconic, passed away peacefully April 3, surrounded by family. 

Born Feb. 21, 1923, in South Jamesport to Julius and Helen (Visinski) Zultoski Felicia married Eddie Koraleski April 27, 1942, and together they made their home in Peconic where they raised their children. She was a homemaker, always taking care of her family.

Felicia was predeceased by her husband Eddie in 2013. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Clifford of California, Felicia (Tom) Geiger of Peconic, and Brenda (Tom) Burchard of Utah. She also leaves three loving granddaughters, Cathy Clifford of California, Felicia (Gary) Gallanders of Southold and Michelle (Zac) Tomaszewski of Laurel, as well as two great grandchildren, Madison and Shawn Tomaszewski.

Cremation was private.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Coster-Heppner Funeral home in Cutchogue.

Her family asks that memorial donations be made to East End Hospice.

Visiting hours for  Elizabeth M. “Betty” Conklin of Greenport will be held Friday, April 10, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 11, at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport. Burial will take place at Sterling Cemetery in Greenport.

Ms. Conklin died March 5 at the age of 87.

Robert Pellegrini, Pellegrini Vineyards co-founder, has died at 76

Robert Pellegrini, the co-owner and founder of Pellegrini Vineyards in Cutchogue, died at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport on Saturday.

He was 76.

Sheila L. Kube

Former Southold resident Sheila L. Kube of Florida died March 27. She was 83. 

She was born July 3, 1931, in Queens to James and Ann (Blackwood) Logan.

Ms. Kube was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence and is survived by her son, Stuart of Jacksonville, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at First Presbyterian Church in Southold with the Rev. Dr. Peter Kelley officiating.  Interment will take place at the church cemetery.

Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation would be appreciated.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.

A memorial service for Father Robert Farrar Capon, who died Sept. 5, 2014, will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 1, in St. Luke’s Chapel at Camp De Wolfe in Wading River. An informal reception will follow. 

Father Capon, who resided on Shelter Island at the time of his death, was dean of the George R. Angelo C. Timpone

Angelo C. Timpone of Mattituck, formerly of Nutley, N.J. and Baldwin, died April 10 his home. He was 87. 

He was born July 13, 1927, in Manhattan to Charles and Raffaella Timpone. Mr. Timpone served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947 and worked as a sub contracts administrator for Grumman in Bethpage.

Mr. Timpone volunteered at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead and was a former member of North Fork Italian American Club.

He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Predeceased by his wife, Ella, in 1998 and his daughter, Carla, in 2004, Mr. Timpone is survived by his daughter Debbie Sidlauskas of Mattituck; his sons, Dr. Charles of Riverhead and Nicholas of Rahway, N.J.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, April 12, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 13, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Mattituck. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.

Scott Lawrence Marcus

Scott Lawrence Marcus of South Carolina died at his home April 4, 2015. He was 51. 

He was born in Jamaica, N.Y., Feb. 16, 1964.

Scott graduated from Huntington High School in 1983 and worked for Kerzner Construction. Eventually Scott started his own business, Magaroo Construction, which was top rated by Angie’s List. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed golfing and adored his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Kerzner Marcus of South Carolina; his mother, Frances Klein of Mattituck, his brother Thomas (Kimberly) of Lindenhurst; his sisters, Jenna (Ray) Moore of Watertown, N.Y. and Kimberly (Kevin) Mulvehill of Sutton, Mass. and two nieces, Grace and Lindsay Mulvehill. He also leaves behind his four beloved dachshunds. He was predeceased by his father, James Klein in 2014.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, April 11, beginning at 5 p.m., at The Shamrock in Huntington.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes in Mattituck.

Robert E. Wilson

Southold resident Robert E. Wilson, formerly a longtime resident of Massapequa, died April 5 at Sunrise Senior Living in East Setauket. He was 94. 

He was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Patchogue to Raymond and Gertrude Wilson. He graduated from Patchogue High School in 1938 and later attended RCA Radio School.

Family members said Mr. Wilson had an early love of radio that led to a job with Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) in 1940. During his 43-year career, he held key positions in field operations and facilities management. He worked on-site supervision for political conventions, presidential inaugurations, NASA launches and news events such as Richards Nixon’s historic trip to Moscow.

During World War II he was part of a select team called American British Laboratories (ABL 15) that focused on counter-radar measures in Europe.

Family members said Mr. Wilson loved water and boating, which brought him to Southold after retiring in 1983. He also loved radio, and being a Ham radio operator and became a member of Peconic Amateur Radio Club.

Predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Camille (née Lux) in 2011, Mr. Wilson is survived by his sons, Brian, of Naples, Fla., Kevin, of Haydenville, Mass. and Peter, of Tenafly, N.J.; his daughter, Pamela, of Saratoga Springs; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Cremation was private.

Arrangements were in the care of Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.

Joseph A. Esquirol Jr.

Joseph A. Esquirol Jr. of Mattituck died at his home April 13. He was 82.

Judge Esquirol was a long-time family court judge in Kings County (Brooklyn).

The family will receive visitors Thursday, April 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 17, at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Mattituck. Interment will follow at Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Elissa Olsen Liszanckie

Riverhead resident Elissa Olsen Liszanckie, formerly of Greenport and Coram died April 11, 2015, at Stony Brook University Hospital. She was 65. 

Elissa was born Jan. 7, 1950, in Brooklyn to Martin and Emma (Vincent) Olsen. She graduated from Longwood High School in 1967 and studied accounting at Suffolk Community College. She married James Liszanckie Jr. Oct 14, 1972, in Islip.

Elissa took care of children for over 20 years and was known as “Mrs. L.”

She enjoyed music and painting landscapes.

In addition to her husband, Elissa is survived by her sister, Marne Olsen of Southold; her daughters, Michele Moore of Richmond, Va., Elizabeth, of Riverhead and Jamie Imre of Phoenix, Ariz.; her sons, James III, of Riverhead, David., of Shelter Island, and Dolan Williams of Suffern, N.Y.; and her grandchildren, Libby Liszanckie, Hayley, Luke and Henry Lowell-Liszanckie, Jessica Moore, Caleb Madison, Lily, Alexa, Korbin and Hope Imre, and soon to be born, baby James Lisznackie IV.

A memorial service took place April 12 at Community Baptist Church in Riverhead, officiated by Pastor Joshua Fryman. Interment was private.

Linda Livni

Linda Livni of Greenport passed away at her home Sunday, April 12, 2015. 

Linda was born June 25, 1943, to Arthur and Sylvia (née Bloch) Levine. Linda lived most of her adult life in Greenport and in Jerusalem, Israel.

While in Greenport, she partnered with her father as proprietor of Arcade Department Store, and after his semi-retirement, she became managing proprietor. Linda was known for her community spirted efforts and her charitable works. The Arcade sponsored many community activities under her guidance.

Linda served as president of Congregation Tifereth Israel in Greenport. In Jerusalem, she took up the cause of many people in need, including the disabled. Linda was like an adopted mother to several young people and they remained close with her into adulthood.

In her late 60s, Linda obtained an emergency medical service license and in the last few years of her life, she annually traveled to an impoverished village in Africa, where she, along with two of her beloved cousins, provided free medical care to those who otherwise had no access.

She is survived by her sister, Greta Tedoff and brother-in-law Howard Tedoff of Manhattan; and brother David Levine of the Bronx. She is also survived by two nieces; two nephews; and six grandnieces and grandnephews.

Her arrangements were private, and a memorial service will be held at Congregation Tifereth Israel in June.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.

Robert H. Gartlemann

Former Jamesport resident Robert H. Gartlemann of Manorville died April 9 in Florida. He was 92. 

He was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Brooklyn to Adelaide and Hermann Gartlemann.

Mr. Gartlemann served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He worked as a claims manager for Liberty Mutual Insurance.

His wife, Marilyn, said he was “an avid duplicate bridge player and a true Renaissance man.”

In addition to his wife, Mr. Gartlemann is survived by his children, Karen, Paul and Eric; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a time and place to be determined.

Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Riverhead resident Lillian Louise Jones, died April 11, 2015 of natural causes. She was 73.

Lillian was born in Greenport, Oct. 19, 1941, to parents John Daniel and Mary Catherine Ford. She is survived by her three children, Vivian Jones of Farmingville, Steven Jones and his wife, Doris, of Southampton, Nancy Rockefeller and her husband, David, of Nanuet, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Raoul Jr., Steven Jr., Robert, Joanna, and great-grandchildren Allienna, Jason and Libby.

Predeceased by siblings, Mary Anna Ford-Riddick, Alice Hicks, William, Frankie, John and Leroy Ford, Lillian is additionally survived by “Sister” Ruth Hubbard and her husband, James, of Peconic; brother George Ford and his wife, Brenda, of Jamaica, N.Y.; and a generation of loving nieces and nephews who will cherish fond memories of her vibrant, gentle and nurturing presence.

Lillian graduated from Suffolk Community College and began her exemplary career as a clinical medical assistant. She worked part-time as a nutritional engineer for the Suffolk County school system and provided outstanding service for almost 20 years as an assistant life skills specialist for Catholic Guardian Society and Home Bureau until she retired in 2013.

Lillian was an active and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Cutchogue and always kept the Word of the Lord in her heart. She loved and appreciated the value of family and honored the gifted closeness of family, friends, and all people in every caring and spiritual way.

Viewing will begin at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 15, at First Baptist Church in Cutchogue with the funeral service at 11 a.m. honoring her homecoming to Heaven, led by Pastor Harriet Gilliam.

Interment will follow at Cutchogue Cemetery with arrangements being handled by DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes.

The family kindly considers any donations to be contributed in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Florence Walker Spieler

Former Greenport resident Florence Walker Spieler of Kingman Ariz., died March 30. She was 97. 

She was born in New York City, Feb. 24, 1918, to Richard and Florence Walker and was raised in Greenport.

Ms. Spieler was a past member and president of the Greenport Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.

Family members said she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing and playing cards.

Ms. Spieler was predeceased by her children Jacqueline Motley, Anita Rock- Reed, Dorothea Harvey-Heins, Lloyd Miller and Kenneth Miller. She is survived by her daughter, Carole J, Myslborski of Greenport; and was grandmother to 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her twin brothers David and Richard Walker, both of Greenport.
