Joseph M. Metzner

Joseph M. Metzner of Cutchogue died April 23 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 92. 

He was born Aug. 31, 1926, to Julia and Augustus Metzner in Brooklyn. 

Mr. Metzner later married his wife, June, who passed away in 2018.

He attended New York University, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and as a battalion chief in the New York City Fire Department. 

Mr. Metzner was a member of Marion Council Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Parish and Cutchogue Historical Society. 

His family said he enjoyed gardening, fishing and wood carving. 

Mr. Metzner is survived by his daughter, Mary Jean Shotwell of Pennsylvania; his sons William (Christine) of Florida and Martin (Dawn) of Arizona; his grandchildren Heather, Amber, Kim, Andrew, Christopher, Sarah, Katie and Mark; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitors will be received Friday, April 26, from 2 to 4 p.m.  at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. Services will take place Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Mattituck. The funeral home assisted the family with a private cremation. 

Memorial donations may be made to Cutchogue Historical Society or the Knights of Columbus.
