Walter J. Belz of Greenport died Sept. 15 at Peconic Landing. He was 93 years old.
He was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Astoria to Walter and Sarah (Rice) Belz.
Walter served in the U.S. Army from 1943-45. He was a Pfc. and earned a Bronze Battle Star in the WWII European theatre. He worked as a U.S. federal government procurement agent for 45 years, and lived in Plainview for 37 years before moving to Peconic Landing 12 years ago.
He and his wife Margaret married on July 1, 1969 in Hollis, N.Y.
Family members said he loved travel and gardening.
Predeceased by his first wife, Grayce, in 1965; he is survived by his wife, Margaret; his sons, Bradley, of Manhasset, and Walter, of Teaneck, N.J.; two grandchildren, Matthew and Jonathan; and one great-granddaughter, Amelie.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greenport, Saturday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. Garrett Johnson.

Arrangements were in the care of Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
